This progressive work was started by MARILYN. She prepared the background using watercolour quilting tecnique.
Then the work was passed to HARRIET LIEBMAN of Toronto who prepared the ALEPH. First there is a layer of silk netting. Then two sets of couching were added, one in black and the second set in gold. The work was embellished with beading and sparkles which do not show in this photo.
It is interesting that the ALEPH is the same "the right way up, and upside-down". The two sets of couching emphasize this feature of the first letter of the ALEPH BET.
This work measures 12" wide by 16" high.
It was requested by WOMEN'S LEAGUE FOR CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM. Canadian Seaway Branch was requested to prepare an ALEPH and this is Marilyn and Harriet's interpretation of an ALEPH. It was framed by WOMEN'S LEAGUE and hung in the seminary, along with the others, displayed at the Biennial Convention in Washington DC in December 2000. Each Branch of Women's League was asked to present a letter of the ALEPH BET.
